The Sundial, The Timekeeper & The Hourglass.

The Sundial, The Timekeeper & The Hourglass.

As we approach the halfway point of the year, a lot of us are wondering where all the time has gone already. For children, the days are long, naps take forever and growing up seems a million years away. Now as adults, time seems fleeting at best and there's never quite enough of it. Why is that?

Women live their lives in cycles, both literally and figuratively. Time is no different. When we’re children we act as “The Sundial.” A notorious lover of the light, the sundial is kissed by the warmth of the sun as the time lazily moves on throughout the day. No Second hand, no minutes to watch. Just the appreciation for the hours gifted to us by the universe. A day is just another adventure and there’s not much thought of tomorrow. There’s an innocence to living under the assumption that there’s endless time. No rushing and no working to pack the day with everything we should. Just possibilities of what we can do.

As we progress in life we become “The Timekeeper”.  We create blocks of time and schedule just about everything. If something isn’t in the plan we often say “I don’t have time for this”. Routines, hard deadlines, responsibilities, jobs, families and countless other obligations occupy our days, although how many of us are really just filling the space right back up as soon as any becomes available? We create ways to make more time however, in this world,  having extra time makes us feel as if we aren’t doing enough. We need to call upon that sundial child to remind us it’s alright to just enjoy the empty time.

In our later years we act as “The Hourglass”, looking at how fast time moves and trying to find ways to stall it. Each grain in the bottom becomes the moments that have gone by, while we forget how much sand is actually still in the vessel. When our role in life has changed it’s easy to see only what’s gone instead of how much is left. This is the legacy of “The Timekeeper.” Again, even as we age it’s important to awaken that child inside of us and let the sun light up her face again. Then and only then can we remember what it’s like to live by the sundial and not the sand.

Be unafraid my love. Be feral. Be immersed in life instead of time. Be 365 Divine.
